“Norway regrets the ruling in the court case against the two youth leaders and bloggers Emin (Milli) Abdullayev and Adnan Hajizade. The Embassy has followed the court proceedings closely. The case raises serious questions about the rule of law and freedom of expression in Azerbaijan. We urge that a possible appeal process is conducted in a fair and transparent manner.

Norway remains committed to supporting the development of democracy and the rule of law in Azerbaijan. In this important endeavour, Norway will remain an active partner for the Azerbaijani government and civil society.”

On November the Sabail District Court issued a sentence in the criminal case opened under Article 221.2.1(hooliganism) and Article 127 (inflicting intentional minor bodily harm), sentencing Emin Milli to 2,5 years imprisonment and Adnan Hajizade to 2 years imprisonment.
