The International Day of Peace ("Peace Day") was established by a United Nations resolution in 1981 to coincide with the opening of the General Assembly. In 2002 the General Assembly officially declared September 21 as the permanent date for the International Day of Peace.

During the week, HRHT plans the following activities:

Day 1

September 20, at 1 p.m.

Discussion at the International Black Sea University about the Alternative Ways of Conflict Resolution.

Main speakers:

Ucha Nanuashvili (The Human Rights Centre) – Peace campaigns in Georgia and their role in conflict resolution;

Aleko Tskitishvili (www.humanrigths.ge) – The role of Media in peace building.

Day 2

September 21, at 12p.m.

The peace demonstration on Rustaveli avenue (in front of Rustaveli monument).

The participants of the action will release symbolically 21 balloons in the sky with peace massages in Abkhazian and Ossetian.

NGO representatives, media and students will participate in the peace action.

Day 3

September 22, at 4 p.m.

Round table on Media and Conflict organized by the HRHT and IWPR. The documentary film of the Studio Re –The Verdict of the August War – will be screened at the meeting.

Day 4

Discussion and film screening of the documentary "Speechless" by Salome Jashi at the movie club of the book store – Diogene.

The film is about the August war 2008 describing the tragedy of people.
