The visit of HRHN representatives – Maria Dahle and Ane Tusvik Bonde (Oslo), Ludmila Ulyashina (Minsk), Danuta Przywara (Warsaw) and Lubov Vinogradova (Moscow) – was aimed at getting updated on the human rights situation in Azerbaijan and solving internal issues prior to the physical establishment of the Human Rights House Azerbaijan.

Core Group Meetings
During the visit there were held two meetings with the so-called Core Group, consisting of leaders of the member organizations to the Human Rights House Azerbaijan. It was the first meeting of the international delegation with the Core Group members after the registration of the HRH Azerbaijan as a branch of HRHF in summer 2007. The main purpose of the meeting was to discuss the future steps towards the establishment of the HRH Azerbaijan and difficulties of the process. The Plan of Action of HRHN as well as joint projects within the Network were discussed as well.

Project for Lawyers
Ludmila-UlyashinaThroughout the visit meetings with different actors, the Belarus lawyer Ludmila Ulyashina (right), a member of the international delegation, introduced the project for Lawyers to be launched for 6 post-soviet countries, including Azerbaijan. Her findings about the importance of the initiative on bringing the lawyers to the human rights protection field are expected to be reflected in the comprehensive program on distance-learning education for lawyers.

Having met with experts on law and human rights in Azerbaijan, Ludmila Ulyashina could gather significant information on necessary adjustments of the project to the specific countries. The project is planned to be launched from 2009.
