Norwegian PEN awarded two Ossietsky Prizes this year. The other went to Professor Francis Sejerstad, who received the award for his efforts to promote and protect freedom of expression. Sejersted has served as Chairman of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, the governmental Freedom of Expression committee in Norway and the Freedom of Expression Foundation.

The Ossietsky Prize is given for outstanding achievements within the field of freedom of expression on 15th November and has been named after the German pacifist Carl von Ossietzky. The 15th of November is the international Writers in Prison Day, which has been established by International PEN. In 2007, the prize was awarded to the Oslo-based radio station “Democratic Voice of Burma”.
