Recently founded by the U.S. State Secretary, AWARD for COURAGE found its laureate in Azerbaijan – Ms. Novella Jafaroglu (on the right) – the chairwoman of the Association for Women’s Rights Protection after D.Aliyeva and representative of Human Rights House Baku, received the award “Woman of Courage” for her work and achievements in the sphere of protection for freedom and human dignity. Novella Jafaroglu was awarded by the US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Ms. Anne Derse on the 13-th of April 2007. (15-APR-07)

Novella Jafaroglu received this awarding certificate from US.Ambassador Anne Derse (on the right) who underlined N.Jafaroglu’s invaluable input to the development of civil society in Azerbaijan. The award is given for “contributions in the furthering the peace, justice and equality” and Novella Jafaroglu is one of 8 laureates in post-soviet republics, first laureates, as the award has been established only in 2007 by the initiative of U.S. State Secretary Ms.Condoleezza Rice.
Novella Jafaroglu said “I highly appreciate and thank the US Government for this award. But I should mention that this Award for Courage is not only my prize, it belong to all the courageous women of my organization, who showed commitment and dedication for justice and human rights for years. It is so pleasant to see that your struggle is appreciated and then you get additional stimulus to go on”.
