Barys Zvozskau was born in 1949 in Belogorsk (Russia), graduated from the Leningrad Electrotechnical Institute. Since the 1990s, Barys Zvozskau actively engaged in human rights activities, rendered practical protection in politically motivated trials, participated in the examination of a number of bills in 1998, was engaged in legal education in preventive Legal Aid. From the very beginning, Barys Zvozskau was among the initiators and active participants in the process of creating and then developing the Belarusian Human Rights House. In 2007-2010 he was the president of the Belarusian HRH.

Barys Zvozskau worked with journalists and activists on the issues of advocacy in civil and criminal proceedings. It should be noted how much he had contributed into human rights education among young people, lawyers, human rights defenders and advocates.

Barys Zvozskau was widely known and highly respected in the human rights defenders community in Belarus. He was an honest professional dedicated to his cause and always ready to help, forgetting about his own needs and concerns.
