The public debate offered to it sparticipants the presentation of news within the UN system of human rights protection, and recommendations adopted for Croatia during the year 2009, by the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) and by the Human Rights Committee in Geneva.
Workshop for civil society organizations (NGOs) and national human rights institutions (NHRI) was used to present the methodology of writing a report for a new mechanism of the UN: UPR (universal Periodic Review). Main speaker at public hearing, as well as at the workshop, was Florian Irminger, Head of the Office of the Human Rights House Foundation placed in Geneva.
The human rights situation in Croatia will be considered this year within the UPR mechanism on the 9th Session of the UN Human Rights Council. The UPR session for Croatia is planned for 29th November 2010, and the deadline for submission of written UPR submission made by NGOs and NHRIs is April 19th.
Present civil society organizations have formed an informal coalition of NGOs to create UPR report, which will be formed by all interested NGOs, and the process of creating a joint UPR report will be coordinated by Sanja Sarnavka, on behalf of the Human Rights House of Zagreb.
