The participants of Election Observation: Theory and Practice project are accredited as international observers to monitor the elections in four Norwegian cities: Oslo, Bergen, Tromsø, and Trondheim.
Besides the observation itself, the guests will be taught the specific features of Norwegian electoral law by specially invited experts. The project staff also proposes a small cultural agenda to get to know more about Norwegian society’s life.
According to election observation missions by OSCE and EU, Belarus is a country with no free and fair election. The recent Parliamentary Election in 2008 fell foul of international standards. Amending electoral law is high among priorities in the negotiations of the EU with official Minsk.
The mission in Norway is a part of an international election observation project managed by four partner organizations: United Center of Initiatives for Belarus (JuBIC), Swedish International Liberal Center (SILC), European Humanities University (EHU) and Belarusian Human Rights House in Vilnius.
Four monitoring missions have already happened within the project – one in Norway (September 2007), one in Georgia (May 2008) and two in Lithuania (September 2008 and May 2009).
