On the 6-th of December there was created the Public Research Commission by the initiative of human rights defenders and lawyers. The Commission is to investigate the cases of violence, occurred on the 26 November protest action. The final output of the Commission will be the public opinion report on the basis of the data, collected during the research. On the 13-th of December at the first reporting meeting of the Commission there were outlined the preliminary results of the work. (14-DEC-2005)

The methods of investigation include collecting of information through ‘hot line’, interviewing the victims of violence, researching the legal basis of force application by the police and law-enforcement representatives toward the peaceful demonstrators, collecting the information about the detained and arrested people, following up the trials, etc. The Commission membership is open to public, but currently among the members are human rights defenders Sahib Mamedov (coordinator), Novella Jafaroglu, Chingiz Ganizadeh, Saadat Benanyarly, Saida Gojamanly, Irada Javadova, Murad and Rena Sadaddinovs, Shahla Ismailova, Fuad Hasanov, Ilqar Ibrahimoglu, Arzu Abdullayeva, Tamilla Karimova; the lawyers – Annagi Hajibeyli, Intigam Aliyev, Alovset Aliyev, Rashid Hajili and others.

The meetings of the commission members take place every Tuesday and there is given the report on the implemented work, distributed among the commission members. Thus, the first reporting meeting after the establishment, held on the 13-th of December, released that there had already Sahib-Mamedovbeen prepared the preliminary report on the legal basis of the force application toward the peaceful demonstrators from the side of law-enforcement representatives as well as legal basis of the methods, used during the demonstration to disperse the people. There are being collected the information from the victims of violence, questionnaires are distributed, the MIA is sent the letter of inquiry.  

According to the words of the coordinator of the Commission Sahib Mamedov (on the right), the Commission plans to finish the research and prepare the public opinion report by the first half of January 2006.
