On the 26-th of November the united radical opposition of Azerbaijan held a protest action against the stolen elections. Though the rally was sanctioned, there took place a brutal violence of police and internal troops at the squire against the peaceful demonstrators. The brutality over women and children, dozens of arrested and missed people, hundreds of injured – the figures are shocking (29-NOV-2005).

Though there is not a complete list of all the victims of the policy violence, still some data have been obtained. See movie clip here from ANS.

The Injured
According to the information received from the headquarters of the opposition parties the number of injured opposition activists is 279 people (Musavat – 44; ADP – 61; APPF – 51; Liberal Party – 123).
Little-LeylaIn addition, the number of injured non-political protesters exceeds 300 people.
This 7-year old girl Leyla Aliyeva (on the right) is one of the victims of police violence. She is a daughter of the director of the Turan Information Agency. Leyla, who attended rally with her aunt and uncle, failed to enjoy the 2-hour’s feeling of freedom. Her first experience ended up with the police attack without warning, as a result of which Leyla’s leg was broken, she got the blows on her head and eye. Her courage is worth admiring as she keeps saying “I am ready to die for my Motherland”.

The Arrested
According to the information received from Azadlig bloc, during the demonstration there were arrested 33 protesters with the term of imprisonment from 10 to 15 days. 25 people were detained and fined in the amount of 24 US dollars.   As a matter of fact the penitentiary institutions refuse to provide information about the detainees.

The Missed
The number of missed people after Saturday’s demonstration is 17 people, according to the reports of opposition members. The law-enforcement bodies, including Ministry of Interior and Chief Police Department, refuse to give any information or comment this fact. Regarding this, the human rights defenders decided to visit the jails on the 30-th of November with the purpose to find these people. This information was received from the Head of the National Committee of Helsinki Civil Assembly Arzu Abdullayeva.
