The Sudan Social Development Organization conducts monitoring of human rights abuses in Darfur, Sudan, and reports on the Sudanese government’s role in the slaughter and carnage there. Mr. Mudawi Ibrahim Adam was tried to keep silent by the Sudanese authorities who jailed him three times in the past 18 months. But Mr. Mudawi always maintained the courage to continue his human rights work.
Mrs. Ludmila Alexeeva was marked for her human rights activity over the last 30 years, particularly during the Soviet period when she along with several other dissidents began to speak out against repression, and also for her current activity. Human Rights First commented, “Today, she is not afraid to raise her voice in the renewed fight for rights in the Russian Federation, including criticizing policies on hate crimes as well as the war in the Chechen Republic, and is a mentor to the new generation of dissidents.”
In honor of the laureates of this award a magnificent reception was organized where more then 800 guests were invited, among them the representatives of the UN and famous social activists.
