From September there is an opportunity to see an exhibition at the Warsaw University Library of photographs by Cuban women entitled “This is our problem too”.
In mid March 2003, while the world turned its attention to the war breaking out in Iraq, Fidel Castro arrested seventy-five human rights defenders, independent journalists, librarians and opposition members. They are currently serving long-term sentences of deprivation of liberty. Photographs presenting their wives and mothers will be displayed during the exhibition. The pictures, along with affixed statements made by the women, do not allow us to forget that in reality entire families are the victims of the repressions.
The Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights and the Czech organization People in Need organize the exhibition. It has been planned as an event accompanying the conference of the International Committee for Democracy in Cuba, which will take place in September in Prague.
The exhibition is being held under the auspices of the President of the Capital City of Warsaw, Lech Kaczynski.
