Defenders from Croatia and the region will attend a conference on human rights defenders held in Zagreb in early December. They will discuss their former and current challenges and greatest accomplishments, as well as trends and the obstacles they face.
At the conference, organisers will present a thematic report assessing the protection of human rights defenders in Croatia as well as their role and impact on Croatian society, produced by HRH Zagreb. It will also be an opportunity to disseminate and promote the Rights of Defenders booklet – a tool that provides clear, accessible, and target insight into international standards protecting human rights work and the context that surrounds these rights.
In cooperation with Solidarna, the House will organise “Human Rights Eve” – a benefit party gathering defenders, civil society organisations and partners of HRH Zagreb.
HRH Zagreb will also produce a short documentary about the situation of human rights defenders in Croatia, including their motivation, greatest accomplishments, challenges and potential threats they have faced.
“Rights of Defenders” aims to promote understanding of international standards that protect and empower human rights defenders.
As part of the project, Human Rights House Foundation has developed tools and resources for defenders to disseminate standards nationally, engage with authorities and hold them accountable to the commitments they make internationally, and initiate national conversations on the importance of defenders and their work.
