Where does freedom begin? At another protest action, a scuffle with those who protect the dictator, or at home, in one’s family or one’s heart? What are they really like, today’s heroes of Belarus? Who is in a more difficult situation: a political prisoner or his mother? Where do they draw their strength from, when everybody else seems to have given up? Can being behind bars actually imprison free spirit?
A new film by Belarusian film director Volha Nikalaichyk, “Liberation”, is an attempt to comprehend this simple and yet complicated, close and distant, attainable and evasive birth of freedom. Liberation.
