HRHT member organizations implement various significant activities aiming at the promotion of human rights. Among them is a project “Human Rights in the Regions,” which involves the HRHT member organizations: Human Rights Center, Article 42 of the Constitution, Georgian Center for Psycho-Social and Medical Rehabilitation of Torture Victims, Union Safari, Institute of Human Rights and Conflict Studies – Kavkasia and Media Institute.
The project Human Rights in the Regions is being implemented with financial support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Georgia both in the capital and in the regions of Georgia.
In the frame of the project, the mobile group of human rights defenders addressed several significant issues during one year period. Among them were high-profile cases like: case of the lawyer Giorgi Mdinaradze, who was beaten by police officers, case of Zviad Peikrishvili, beaten by police officers in Kaspi, case of underage G. K, case of M.G vs Company Desheli, cases of the Jehovah Witnesses, etc.
Some of the HRHT processed cases were successfully finalized; proceedings into some cases were suspended for unknown time and alleged perpetrators remain unpunished.
- In the case of underage G. Kakhurashvili, the defendant side tries to drag out the process that has negative impact on the child and breaches his rights. HRHT requests to timely finish the court proceedings and return the property to the legal owner.
- HRHT requests restoration of justice with regard to Zviad Peikrishvili, resident of Kaspi district and punishment of police officers, who had beaten him.
- The organization provides legal assistance to the lawyer Giorgi Mdinaradze, who was brutally beaten by police officers in Tbilisi police unit # 5. Although the head of the police unit is arrested, the HRHT requests punishment of all persons, who by action or inaction assisted the harassment fact to happen.
- HRHT processes case of socially indigent lonely mother Darejan Chokheli-Tchelidze, who was fined with 10 000 GEL by the Tbilisi City Hall. Despite the advocacy of the organization, the corresponding administrative bodies did not resolve the problem. Consequently the HRHT lawyer decided to appeal to the Tbilisi City Court and the hearing is scheduled on January 22, 2016.
- Human Rights defenders’ mobile group works for Roma rights in the means of getting ID cards. Being without documents, restrict Roma people to have access to the public services. With the support of HRHT lawyers, four Roma persons received ID cards and in three more Roma persons will get IDs shortly.
- On June 8, 2015 N.A. from Signagi applied to the HRHT. She was fired from the job because of her political opinion. On June 8, the city court of Signagi annulled the order of February 18, 2015 on firing N.A and restored her to the position at Kindergarten. The lawyer from HRHT was defending the rights of N.A.
- In addition to the legal aid, HRHT mobile group provides psychological consultations. With this purpose the psychologists visited one of the villages in Kakheti and conducted psycho-education meeting to the school teachers about bulling. In addition to that, psychologists worked with teachers on treatment of trauma on a specific case, which had positive results and emotional status of teachers stabilized.
