Tamara Chikunova told the participants of the Summer School, that her only son was forced to plead guilty to murder after being tortured, that investigators blackmailed him, threatening to kill her – his mother.
Tamara Chikunova’s position in the struggle for the abolition of the death penalty has received well-deserved praise – she has won 11 international awards, including the order of the French Legion of Honour.
Tamara Chikunova noted that today Central Asia abolished the death penalty.Belarus is the only country with the death penalty among all CIS states.
Tamara Chikunovs also spoke about the importance of social dialogue on the topic of death penalty and the necessity to abolish it.
The discussion was held by the coordinator of the campaign “Human Rights Defenders against Death Penalty” Andrei Paluda. The human rights defender Valiantsin Stefanovich has also participated in the discussion.
