Pål Lieungh

Deputy Chairperson

Pål Lieungh graduated as a Candidate in Jurisprudence at the University of Oslo in 1988. He started his professional career as a Secretary for the governmental appointed committee mandated with preparing a new Norwegian Penal Code. He went on working as a litigator with the law firm Hauge & Stang Lund. He had a scholarship from British Council in 1991 for studying English law in London and worked as a Deputy Judge at Asker and Bærum District Court in 1992-1994. From 1994-1999 Lieungh worked for Kværner ASA in Norway until 1995, then as in-house counsel for their legal offices in Hong Kong covering Southeast Asia and then in Philadelphia as the Head of Kværner’s legal offices for North and South America from 1997 to 1999.

In 1999, Lieungh joined the Norwegian law firm Thommessen and became a partner in 2002. He has specialized competence as a litigator and legal advisor within shipping, offshore and oil & gas industry and extensive international experience as an advisor to Norwegian companies dealing with international projects.

Lieungh has been a member of the board of Human Rights House Foundation since 2018.
