Third Dublin Platform for Human Rights Defenders

Frontline, the international human rights defenders organisation with whom HRH has cooperated on several occasions, is hosting its annual Dublin platform, from today, 13 October until Saturday. The third Dublin platform will bring together more than one hundred human rights defenders from over seventy countries. Borghild Tonnessen-Krokan of HRH?s secretariat participates. (13-OCT-05)

Many of the participants have been selected on the basis that they are at risk because of their human rights work in their own country. The human rights defenders will discuss the changing nature of the threats that they face and what measures can be most effective to ensure their protection. There will be specific workshops on the Protection Manual for Human Rights Defenders and on electronic communications and security. Participants will also discuss progress on the EU Guidelines on the Protection of Human Rights Defenders and the specific and additional risks that women face as human rights defenders.

As Russia’s war in Ukraine continues, the resilience of those affected is tested daily. The psychological toll on the Ukrainian population is profound, with widespread reports of trauma, anxiety, and stress-related disorders. Ukrainian civil society organisations have mobilised to provide critical support to those in need while often needing support themselves. HRHF asked the partners from the Network of Human Rights Houses about the connection between mental health and human rights and what kind of role mental health support plays in the resilience of Ukrainian civil society.
