From the Norwegian Tibet Committee, one of the in-house member organisations of the Norwegian Human Rights House, www.humanrightshouse.org has received the following appeal, addressing the issue of violations of children’s rights, including Panchen Lama (right) in the People´s Republic of China. Please read and sign it, as soon as possible. (31-AUG-05)

the People´s Republic of China appears before the UN Committee for the Rights of the Child (CRC) on 19-20 September 2005 in Geneva, Switzerland for the first time since 1996, the year following the detention of Gedhun Choekyi Nyima. It was on that occasion that the People´s Republic of China admitted for the first time that it had taken the child. China’s appearance before the CRC presents us with a major window of opportunity to advance the case of the missing Panchen Lama. Since January, a few Tibet groups have already been doing much to take advantage of this.

The Tibet ngos has prepared a letter to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, urging them to question the People´s Republic of China about the Panchen Lama. The letter can be found on the following web page:
http://www.freepanchenlama.org/petition/2005CRC.php

Please read the letter and sign-on to it electronically by the end of Monday 5 September. The more NGOs that sign on to this letter, the bigger the impact it will make!
