The incumbent power of Azerbaijan has launched a wave of arrests of opposition-minded people and oppositin activists. Consequently, a great number of poeple were jailed and while some have run to other countries for seeking political asylum. Currently, the big fish of the opposition parties are still been kept at the prisons. Just a few days before, the ruling regime ordered the police to attack the Juma mosque, which headed by highly educated imam Ilgar Ibrahimoglu.

Police attack

Some 100 police entered the mosque on 30th of June and urged the prayers at the mosque to vacate the mosque. police used excessive force against the prayers, while some of them were beaten up harshly. The belongings of the mosque has been confiscated by the police.

Many international and local NGOs have expressed their concern and perplexity on point of persecution of imam of the mosque Juma Ilgar Ibrahimoglu, whose merits in the sphere of Islamic propaganda, struggle against terrorism and tolerance are highly appreciated by the world community.The International Human Rights House Foundation in its letter to Ilham Aliyev condemned numerous facts of violations of human rights and freedoms of citizens of Azerbaijan: expel of the religious community from the mosque Cuma Mescid, continuation of the trial against opposition leaders. Foundation considers the court decision on expel of religious community as “highly disputed”, actions of police as “illegal”.
