The aim of the meeting was to learn more about the situation regarding human rights in Azerbaijan. Novella Jafaroglu, Chairwoman of the Association for Protection of Women’s Rights after Dilara Aliyeva gave detailed information on different aspects of the situation regarding human rights, including the situation with the political prisoners, freedom of assembly and expression, opposition parties, domestic violance, etc. She also provided the visitors with the list of the political prisoners where the Monitoring Group on Human Rights have managed to include the names of two young bloggers who were recently sentenced to imprisonment.

Noella Jafaroglu highlighted favourable co-operation with the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Azerbaijan in regard with the visits to the prisons where the latter reacts the requests of the Monitoring Group to visit the prisoners, including the political prisoners with even a short notice.

She also mentioned the importance of the Human Rights House Azerbaijan, its partners, joint activities, as well as the alternative reports developed by the partners of the House to submit to different committees of the UN while considering the report of the Government of Azerbaijan.

The visitors thanked her for very useful and detailed information on the situation in Azerbaijan regarding human rights issues.

The meeting was also attended by the representatives of OSCE Baku office and Embassy of Norway in Baku.
