Azerbaijan Human Rights House hosted its ever largest-scale event today. With the initiative of the Youth Committee of the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party, about 70 young people representing Youth Committees of Azerbaijan Popular Front Party, Musavat Party, Azerbaijan Democratic Party, as well as, Facebook users, young writers-members of Azerbaijan Independent Writers’ Union came together to support the marathon started by Azerbaijan Independent Writers’ Union. The aim of the marathon is to generate funding for the support of the publishing of a literary almanac initiated by the Union.

Young poet Samir Baycan welcomed the participants and talked about the aim of the marathon, difficulties they face in publishing the periodicals of Independent Writers’ Union and donations made so far.

Famous writer, Member of the Parliament Sabir Rustamkhanli encouraged the Union to submit their proposals for support to the Government of Azerbaijan. He also expressed his deep concern on the limited number of book stores in the country.

Famous poet, Member of the Parliament Agil Abbas shared his views on the current state of reader interest in the literature and suggested that young writers and poets visit Universities, school to meet students and raise their awareness on the poems of the contemporary poets.

Famous poet Seyran Sekhavat talked about the difficulties writers face in finding funding to publish their books and the importance of the marathon.

Azad Azerbaijan TV company was represented at the event to take some moments of the event for its evening news programme.
