The Political and Cultural Center for Azerbaijan Women with support of Global Fund for Women started the project, titled “Influence of Gender Equality Law: Changes Occurred in Public Life of Women during Last Year”. The project aims at raising public attention to the implementation of the law “On Gender Equality”, adopted in 2006. The law is to ensure gender equality in Azerbaijan and is aimed at increasing women’s status in the society.

Within the project activity it is planned to investigate the workability of the law in terms of implementation mechanism, impact power, commitments of the agencies, provisions, opportunities for women as well as the impact the law made on women’s public life within last year, since its adoption.

Competition
Mehriban-VezirThe competition for journalists’ investigation was announced on the 24-th of January at the press conference. The head of the Center Mehriban Vezir (right) explained that the evaluation is to made by five jury members , the names of which would be announced only after the end of the competition. This is aimed at making the competition maximum objective and impartial. For the same purpose, the articles to be submitted by the journalists would be handed to the jury members without names of the journalists – this would allow the jury to judge only the content and quality of the articles regardless who wrote it.

The competition is to last from 25 January to 25 March 2008 and the monetary awards are:
– 300 Azn for the first place
– 250 Azn for the second place
– 200 Azn for the third place
