Tibet will not be represented at the 2008 Olympic games like other nations. The opening ceremonies will take place in Beijing on 8 August and the Tibetans, as a nation will remain barred from participating. To put pressure on the Chinese authorities the Norwegian Tibet Committee has joined the international campaign “Team Tibet” which will be officially launched on 4 August with stands all over the world. The Olympic games is a prestigious project in which the People´s Republic of China wants to appear in the best light. This means it constitutes an opportunity to put pressure on the Chinese authorities both on the Tibet issue and on respect for human rights on a more general basis. The international campaign “Team Tibet” is a materialisation of this pressure and the Norwegian Tibet Committee invites you to support Tibet by participating in the Oslo mini-marathon on the 30 September under the slogan “Bring Tibet to the 2008 games”. If you want to join in please do so before 10 August.

What is Team Tibet?
The members of Team Tibet, all passionate sports people, are forced to live as refugees around the world. Their dream is to fly their flag alongside athletes from other nations as they walk into the Olympic Stadium at the opening of the Beijing Games on 8 August , 2008. It is their passion for sports as well as a greater vision of freedom – to live free as a people and nation – that gives these athletes the strength to believe in their audacious mission.

Team Tibet is also made up of honorary members – individuals everywhere who believe in a political solution to Tibet´s occupation and who want to be counted in support of that goal.
