The presentation “Psychiatry and Human Rights in Belarus: Law and Practice” will be the final event of the international practical meeting of lawyers, human rights activists and experts in the field of psychiatry, organized by the Barys Zvozskau Belarusian Human Rights House, the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights (Poland), the American Bar Association (USA). During the meeting, participants and experts will discuss the systemic problems related to human rights in the field of psychiatry in Belarus, the practice of the functioning of various state institutions and agencies and the main areas of concern from the point of view of compliance with the standards in psychiatry in Belarus.

The participants of the discussion will be the lawyers and human rights defenders-practitioners experienced in situations of human rights violations in psychiatry and practitioner psychiatrists who are assessing the real situation from professional perspective.

After developing joint recommendations on the necessary system changes and after identifying specific next steps on selected aspects related to serious human rights violations in psychiatry, participants and experts from Belarus, Poland and the United States will present them at the presentation on 28 May.
