At the end of 2006 there were released some official figures concerning the activities of the Ministry of Justice and Milli Mejlis (the National Parliament). According to the statistics, there are totally over 2,300 registered NGO-s and 2,800 mass media outlets in Azerbaijan. Milli Mejlis adopted 154 laws and took 21 decisions in 2006 and according to the Speaker of the Parliament Ogtay Asadov (on the right) “This year parliament completely fulfilled its legislative function reflected in the constitution”. Ministry of Justice
In 2006 Azerbaijan´s Justice Ministry registered approximately 500 NGO. It was announced at the session of the Justice Ministry´s Board summing up the results of 2006 that the total number of registered NGO exceeds 2,300.  In 2006 425 mass media organs were included the state register, now their number has reached 2,800. 
Also in 2006 the Ministry of Justice considered approximately 16,500 municipal acts, of which 1,000 were eliminated, or changed as they run counter the legislation. Protocols were drawn up against 150 municipalities for bringing them to justice. Against 17 municipalities materials were sent prosecutor office. Municipalities were returned approximately 1,000 hectares of lands illegally taken from them.

Milli Mejlis
The speaker of the Parliament Ogtay Asadov announced the statistics in the last sitting of autumn session of Parliament, according to which 154 laws, 21 decisions were adopted during 2006. Speaking about the work of Milli Mejlis, the speaker noted that some laws were adopted in the first or second reading, some declarations, agreements and the decisions to join international conventions were approved. “This year parliament completely fulfilled its legislative function reflected in the constitution,” said Ogtay Asadov.
