Six nations revolt against U.N. censure
A United Nations committee is expected to block an attempt by the United States and European nations to single out six countries -- Islamic Republic of Iran, North Korea, Burma (Republic of the Union of Myanmar), Republic of the Sudan, Turkmenistan and Republic of Uzbekistan -- for condemnation on human rights abuses. Arguing that Western nations have double standards on human rights, all six countries will be using a procedural device to thwart the adoption of the six resolutions by calling for "no action motions". 23 Nov 2005 »
Kurdish politicians urge EU to keep pressure on Turkey
Oslo: During their visit to the Human Rights House November 21, the Kurdish mayors Sukran Aydin and Leyla Guven, right, urged the European Union to keep pressure on Republic of Turkey with regard to the position of the Kurdic minority. For as long as the Burmese army uses rape as a weapon; boycott Burma
Burma has ratified UN´s Convention on the Rights of Women. Even so, the military regime still uses rape as a tactical weapon against the country´s ethnic minorities. The opposition in Azerbaijan gets broader support
Baku: Crushed by the disastrous election results on 6 November, the Azeri opposition is slowly regaining its strength. Following protests and requests to organize new elections, it has reorganized itself into a new coalition, the Democratic Front.
