Somali government detains Mogadishu reporter covering security sweep
Police have detained a journalist who was reporting on a security operation undertaken by Somalia's Ethiopian-backed government in the capital, Mogadishu, according to the National Union of Somali Journalists and local news reports. Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) appeals. 14 Sep 2007 »
NUSOJ concerned over missing Internet journalist
HRH F's partner organisation National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) is concerned over the disappearance of internet journalist Mohamed Hussein Jimaale on Tuesday, 11 September. The journalist was last seen in Bakara Market where government troops were making operations, and family and friends believe that he has been arrested by the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) police. Court agrees to hear case on sexual minorities' rights
The High Court has agreed to hear the case of two women who claim they were tortured by the Police and the LCI chairman of Kireka on allegations that they were lesbians. Justice Stella Arach-Amoko, right, yesterday overruled the Attorney General's objection to the hearing of the case. The United States government will contribute to military efforts to wipe out the Lord´s Resistance Army rebels and hunt down its leaders in the event of the failure of the current peace talks in Juba in Southern Republic of the Sudan, a senior official said last week.
