Development of Gender Sensitivity in Belarus

The HRH together with Center for Gender Studies at the European Humanities University, Commission on Women’s Rights at Law Initiative (Belarusian NGO, headquartered in Minsk), Adliga Centre for Gender initiatives (Vitebsk, Belarus), Third Sector (Hrodna) and Belarusian Association of Journalists completed a project on the development of gender sensitivity in Belarus.

The project consisted of a series of trainings providing participants (members and activists of participating and other Belarusian NGOs interested in the promotion of gender equality in Belarus) with methods of protecting women's rights and ways to encourage women's activism and their greater degree of participation in the society's life, empowering the participants with gender-sensitive methodology, giving the understanding of gender-related issues, developing creative writing and film making skills of participants and introducing project management and fundraising tools, where the experts focused on how to make own projects based on the ideas of gender sensitivity that the participants had. Between seminars, participants worked on assignments under supervision of project experts and communicated via a blog that helped them maintain contact and develop cooperation at all stages of the project. During local internships, participants from different regions visited each other's organizations, share d experience and worked jointly on their own projects.
