Persecution of human rights defender Leyla Yunus

Member and partner NGOs of the Human Rights House Network (HRHN) and the South Caucasus Network of Human Rights Defenders, express their deep concern over the persecution and hindrance of free movement of human rights defender Leyla Yunus and her husband Arif Yunus. They call upon the Minister of Internal Affairs and the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Azerbaijan to put an end to the attacks, detention and harassment of human rights defenders and to take steps in order to foster a safe environment for human rights defenders, in line with Azerbaijan’s international obligations and commitments, including as a member of the Council of Europe. 30 Apr 2014 »

Worrisome pressure by the European Union to further reduce the UN human rights budget

Members of the Human Rights House Network (HRHN) express their concern to learn that the European Union is aiming at further reducing the ordinary budget of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. The NGOs call upon the European Union to support the work of the Office, by increasing its ordinary budget as a way to strengthen the impact of its work and cooperation by all States. 26 Nov 2013 »
